Description

This silk alpaca scarf is elegant and light. The depth of colour and lace pattern often catches visitor’s eye in our studio and it is our most popular item. It is interesting as a weaver to have a scarf with a simple lace weave being so commented on and purchased. I am always thinking about what colours I like together and interesting weave structures and yet a simple graceful scarf all in one colour is often peoples preferred choice.

The lace pattern is called Atwater Bronson lace. It is usually a one colour weave and small groups of threads bunch together and may form gaps and add a subtle texture in the weaving. I have used about five different configurations of lace weave using one per entire scarf. It is the only item that I have woven a number of over the past few years. Usually I do five scarves on a warp at a time.

  • Yarn type : Alpaca/silk
  • Colours : Red, Peacock, Purple, Mulberry, Jade
  • Size: approximately 69 x 9in (175 x 23cm), excluding the twisted fringe
  • Fringe : Yes, 4″ (10cm)
  • Care : Gently hand wash in warm water. Dry flat in shade. Iron while damp.

Yarn

This Peruvian yarn consists of 70% alpaca and 30% silk. This particular yarn is well suited to lace weaves as it holds the skips required in the pattern well. All of the five colours that I use are lovely wearable shades. There is such a depth to the colour which makes it the outstanding feature of the scarf with the lace adding a subtle detail.

The scarf approximately measures 69 by 9 inches (175 x 23cm) this is excluding the fringe. The fringe is approximately 4 inches (10cm) long and has been twisted which as well as giving a nice touch to the scarf it also helps protect those warp ends from wear.

Care

To take care of your silk alpaca scarf you will need to gently hand wash in warm water, separately from other items. Rinse. Lie flat in the shade to dry. The scarf will need to be ironed while it is still damp.

The scarf will be packaged in a black gift box with our logo on the front. Inside the box the scarf will be surrounded by tissue paper. There is a box insert included with the scarf that adds another detail which makes this a lovely gift for someone special.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.
